Demand for individuals with coding skills is growing rapidly and there is simply not enough of them to fulfill all of the open jobs. When the unemployment rate is rising and there is a surplus of jobs in a given industry, it’s time to take notice. A Queen’s nonprofit ,Access Code, recognized this gap and decided to utilize it to the benefit of the lower income citizens in that particular area of New York. The idea was presented to teach Queens residents how to write iPhone Apps in order to introduce them to new opportunities for work. The idea was that by giving them the knowledge to build iPhone Apps, they could use that as a stepping stone into other types of coding in order to tap into the 70,000 available tech jobs in New York. Through this program, Queens residents who took the classes have been able to increase their average income from around $15,000 to over $72,000 in just 6 months.
There are other ways people have been getting involved in the coding world in other parts of the country as well. Digital agency, Huge, recently hosted a 4 day crash course in the introduction to coding. The message of this course was that everyone as individuals and as a collective people can benefit from learning code. Personally, as a marketer and member of a start-up I would stand to benefit greatly from learning some coding basics. It would allow me to effectively communicate my desires to the development team, and understand just what that entails on their end. It would also allow for smoother communication between the two business facets as well as make for more realistic time estimates which would improve planning activities.
We all know the importance that coders have on our everyday life. They work excruciatingly long hours and by nature of the fact that many of them are helping to build websites for start-ups, they are sometimes working for only the potential of future pay. The life of a coder can be tedious and the in order for them to put their all into their projects and still maintain a social life, they shouldn’t have to worry about the business end of their contributions. An interesting development in the heart of Silicon Valley happens to be addressing that exact problem. Some of the most talented coders are now being approached by agencies for representation to handle the business side of their careers. Agencies take the traditional 15% cut and in return handle the booking of freelance work, fitting jobs based on coders skill set, and even offering career path advice so that coders are able to achieve their professional goals in an efficient way. It is great to see a growing generation of hardworking coders begin to receive the movie star treatment so that they can live the lifestyle that many of us can only dream about. 10X is one of the pioneers of the coder management agency industry, now managing over 30 clients.
So, let’s talk a little more in-depth breakdown of what website coding is. Website design is how you get a website to display the content that you wish to have on your site in an attractive and user friendly way. It involves developing of the aesthetics of the site all the way to the categorizing of links and other data. As you’ve all seen with websites these days, coding is getting more and more in-depth and allowing for us to complete more difficult tasks with ease. This is all done through the creation of HTML codes that are used to tell the web page what to display. HTML is the most basic type of coding or web design. C++, which is a performance driven language, is used in production of media such as video games and other high performance criteria.
After reading all of this information about coding, I was excited to try and learn a few things about HTML coding.Codecademy offers a great way to walk through the process, and actually design a version of a website. It shows you just how straightforward coding can be, but also how easy it can be to mess up if you’re not careful.
